Our Story

Alexis Dumonteil is the founder of the Dumonteil Limoges brand and company.
This French company was born from a deep-rooted passion for fishing and nature — but also from a beautiful legacy passed down from grandfather to grandson.
Originally from Châteauroux in the Indre region, Alexis discovered fishing at the age of five, guided by his maternal grandfather, Roland Limoges, himself a native of this area dotted with ponds and rivers.
The workshop was at the end of a large garden — Alexis’s favorite place. There, he would spend hours watching his grandfather build and repair fishing rods, prepare their gear, and talk about the next outing. The place was bright, meticulously organized. It's where Alexis first discovered lures, rod types, and components. He opened drawers and cabinet doors, surrounded by the scent of wood and materials, playing and learning under the watchful and amused eye of his grandfather. It was the beginning of a lifelong passion.
They shared countless fishing days in the Indre, during which his grandfather taught him values like respect for nature, patience, and the joy of simple, unique moments.
In 2009, Alexis and his family moved to Gujan-Mestras, near the Arcachon Bay. With this new chapter came his first technical rods, reels, and lures. He practiced his casting and techniques at Lake Magdeleine and the Chêneraie Canal — two spots that became deeply meaningful to him.
There, he met seasoned anglers who generously shared their knowledge and experience.
In May 2013, Alexis’s grandfather passed away after an illness, leaving a huge emotional void. He bequeathed to Alexis all his fishing equipment — the very same that had ignited their shared passion seven years earlier. That sorrow gradually gave way to a powerful sense of tribute — and a desire to carry on what had been passed down to him.
At 16, still in high school and with an entrepreneurial spirit, Alexis launched his first business: “Alexis Panneaux Déco Bois.” It helped him buy his first premium fishing gear. He worked various jobs — up to three at once — saving with one goal in mind: to one day make a living from his passion.
At 17, he discovered rodbuilding thanks to a meeting with a Rodhouse prostaffer. He held a unique handmade rod for the first time — and was stunned by its unmatched performance. From that moment, he was determined to master the craft. He quickly realized the creative possibilities were endless — from finishes to blank choices and components. He ordered his first building kit, made his first rod... and it was a revelation.
After months of learning and countless attempts, Alexis created a prototype he had tested by experienced anglers. The verdict: a precise, ultra-sensitive rod with pure aesthetics and superior performance on the water. The first orders soon followed.
With his high school diploma in hand, Alexis set a two-year goal to launch his own company. His vision: to create unique, tailor-made, ultra-premium rods with finishes as precise as a luxury watch and as beautiful as a custom car body. In September 2019, Dumonteil Limoges was officially born, in a workshop on the family property.
It took two years to refine the production process and build strong relationships with the partners involved in the project.
Today, Dumonteil Limoges offers several rod series, all built using the finest blanks and components on the market. The brand delivers a service worthy of the most prestigious luxury houses, creating one-of-a-kind concepts to elevate both comfort and pleasure in fishing.
A Dumonteil Limoges rod transforms a simple fishing tool into a timeless piece of art, designed to deliver extraordinary sensations. The brand uses world-class materials, including PPG finishes and color codes from the finest automotive manufacturers.
Processes like anodizing give each part a unique hue and excellent scratch resistance. This mastery of detail gives Dumonteil Limoges rods their brilliance and beauty.
The brand also designs ergonomic, one-of-a-kind handles made from the material of your choice — your identity, your signature. These handles offer comfort and unmatched feel in action.
Dumonteil Limoges is, above all, a tribute — a story of passion, transmission, and love between a grandfather and his grandson.
